The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that one of its officers is lucky to be alive after suffering a critical, life-threatening injury while performing a medevac rescue for an injured hiker. He was given lifesaving treatment by the hiker, who was a US Air Force doctor.
According to news reports, a police helicopter was shot down over Benghazi, Libya on 6 July by militants believed to support autonomy for eastern Libya. The helicopter was carrying election materials onboard when it was hit by a rocket propelled grenade. Although the pilot survived, one passenger, a member of the High Electoral Committee, was killed.
A military C-130 plane equipped with the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) crashed while battling a fire in Southwestern South Dakota, US at approximately 18:30 hrs on 1 July. The aircraft belonged to the North Carolina Air National Guard’s 145th Airlift Wing.
A Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) trooper has died during a rescue operation. Thirty-four-year-old Aaron Beesley, a 13-year veteran of the UHP, had been involved in a search and rescue (SAR) mission for two teenagers who became lost on the Mount Olympus Trail on the afternoon of 30 June.
Reacting to yesterday's resignation of the members of the EURAMI board, EURAMI president Dr Michael Weinlich announced today that he will also resign as soon as interim board members are in place, or, if this does not happen before the end of October, he will resign at the EURAMI members meeting – to be held at the ITIC Barcelona conference from 29 October to 1 November.
