Three killed in USCG Jayhawk crash
Four Coast Guard Air Station Sitka members were onboard the helicopter, CG6017, which was flying from Astoria, Oregon, to Sitka, Alaska, when it went down on 7 July. The surviving crewmember was taken to a Seattle hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A search was launched when the Jayhawk crew did not perform a routine radio check-in – contact was lost at 09:32 hrs. The USCG reported that a good Samaritan retrieved two crewmembers from the water and transferred them to ground emergency medical services. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria launched two MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crews and Air Station Port Angeles, Washington, launched two MH-65 Dauphin helicopter crews to search for the remaining crew.
