129th welcomes new first sergeant
Master Sgt Anja O’Neil, avionics technician with the 129th Rescue Wing has been selected to serve as the first sergeant for the 129th Maintenance Squadron, after graduating from First Sergeant Academy at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Alabama, US in November 2009. Sergeant O’Neil, who joined the California Air National Guard after 12 years on active duty, took a short break to have five children before returning to the military in a smaller capacity. She said: “I was always a maintenance troop. I always enjoyed working on the aircraft and didn’t think of myself as much of a people person. After attending training for information management, I realised that I’m just as good at taking care of people as I am taking care of planes.”
Sergeant O’Neil is enthusiastic about ensuring airman morale and readiness is ‘at its peak’ and is encouraging allaAirmen with all ideas, complaints, complements or even constructive criticism to speak up. She is also focusing on education and success in her airmen’s careers.
