Queensland Police Service contracts for first helicopter

The Queensland Police Service has signed a contract with Heliwest of Jandakot, Western Australia, to supply the force with its first helicopter. The aircraft will be operated by Heliwest pilots and crewed by Queensland Police officers.

German police hoist 30 from cable car

On 12 August, air rescue resources were called to the aid of passengers stranded in mid-air in Bavaria, Germany, after a tandem paraglider collided with a cable car system. Nineteen passengers and the cable car operator were stuck onboard the upper car, with a further 30 people onboard a second, lower car.

LASD crew rescues victim from Mt Wilson

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) paramedics rescued a fall victim in the Mount Wilson area of the Angeles National Forest on 8 February.

UK Police Air Support cuts

The UK Home Office has published a White Paper addressing plans to create efficiencies and reduce spending by police forces, including changes to Police Air Support Units. The report, published on 2 December 2009 by the home secretary, Alan Johnson, sets out a new programme of measures ‘to help the police work smarter to fight crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and boost public confidence’.

Maryland State Police responds to NTSB

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has determined that the probable cause of the crash of Trooper 2, a Maryland State Police (MSP) emergency medical services helicopter, was the pilot's attempt to regain visual conditions by performing a rapid descent and his failure to arrest the descent at the minimum descent altitude (MDA) during a nonprecision approach.
