Russian Ambassador thanks RAF crew for rescue

The Russian Ambassador has thanked the crew of the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) search and rescue (SAR) flight, which included Prince William (known as Flt Lt Wales in the service), for their attempts to rescue the crew of a sinking Russian cargo vessel this at the end of November.

The 2011 winners of the Cormorant Trophy, which recognises the ‘Canadian civilian, government or military crew that has performed the most demanding helicopter rescue of the year’, have been announced, in honour of the rescue of a stranded hiker on Hat Mountain during a winter storm.

UK contract marks ‘new era’ for SAR

The UK is to have a new fleet of faster and more modern search and rescue helicopters, the British government has announced. The new service will see search and rescue operations provided by contracted civilian crews, and the government has today started the procurement process for a contract lasting around 10 years.
